Ohio Senate Candidate Shifts Gears to Education Reform After Youngkin Win

After Republican Glenn Youngkin won Virginia’s gubernatorial race on the back of conservative parents who protested the liberal indoctrination of their children in public schools, other Republican candidates for office are taking notice.

Jane Timken, a GOP candidate for U.S. Senate in Ohio, is among them.

After Youngkin’s victory, her campaign immediately began airing an ad targeted towards conservative parents.

“Joe Biden and the left are teaching our kids to hate America,” the ad says. “They’re even unleashing the FBI on parents who dare to fight back.”

Timken goes on to promise that she will “fight to stop the liberal indoctrination of our children,” and says that she will work to ban Critical Race Theory (CRT).

She noted that focus on education will be a critical issue for the political right in the 2022 midterm elections.

“I think that we’ll see a lot of Republicans starting to talk about education in school choice,” she told NBC. “But again, the fundamental issue is putting people and parents in charge of their child’s education.”

She also said that conservatives taking back political power “begins with taking back our classrooms and taking back our country.”

Timken’s campaign was discussing the hotbed issue as early as October, even before the Youngkin’s ground-breaking victory in Virginia.

She used her Political Action Committee (PAC), Jane’s Leadership PAC to lend financial support to 40 school board candidates across the state.

“As a mom, I am deeply concerned with teachers unions and the Liberal Left putting special interests ahead of children’s well-being. Moms and dads outraged over unconstitutional mask and vaccine mandates and Critical Race Theory in our schools have led a political awakening in our country, and I am proud to stand with them in this fight,” she said in an Oct. 27 news release.

“Taking back our country starts with taking back our classrooms, and we need School Board members that understand passionate parents are not domestic terrorists, indoctrination is not education, and politicians are not supreme to parents.”
